The hpr group of gundogs are quite superior being a highly intelligent and completely versatile canine.  He is capable of many disciplines enabling one to enjoy endless time together and is most happy when respected, understood and has a purpose. However, basic obedience and consistent ground rules are paramount during puppyhood and throughout adolescence if this is to be achieved.

Training should be fun with an intention to instil confidence yet be positive and focused.  Here at Achouffe we make such provision for these hpr gundogs, the odd Retriever and their handlers, and offer a life long commitment of support to all our puppies and their owners by way of these training days.

It has always been our intention to produce and promote our dogs for which they were originally intended and to encourage others who wish to embark into the field of work, helping both novice and the more knowledgeable in achieving and developing an understanding of that bond between dog and handler from simple puppy classes, basic obedience, water and swimming tuition, to experiencing that real life working field environment via retrieving, tracking, hunting, caged game, walked up and shot over days. This has also enabled us to raise money for many charities and good causes such as the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, Cancer Research, the Weimaraner Association, the Eve Appeal (formerly the Gynaecological Cancer Research Fund), Help for Heroes and the National Gamekeepers  Organisation (NGO). Committed to the Working Gundog Achouffe are fortunate to have been kindly sponsored at all our events by Chapel Farm Performance Dog Food.

All our training days are covered by approved Health & Safety Method Statements, Fire and Risk Assessments, are attended by fully qualified First Aiders, a trained Fire Marshall together with a certified Food Hygienist (just in case the sun shines and we decide to have a communal BBQ) and carry all the associated qualifying certificates with the necessary equipment at every event so one must expect a short Induction and Health & Safety briefing prior.

Throughout 2010/11 our training days became increasingly popular which highlighted the need for a second trainer.

Trainers Mark and Carl

In a response to the above we approached Carl Issitt from the Forgun Kennels forgunweimars.co.uk to assist. Carl who has always owned a calm, quiet and gentle nature has had working Weimaraners for over twenty years himself a member of two shoots’ in the county of Lincolnshire UK, he possesses an excellent understanding of the hpr and is a keen shot over these working gundogs.

Already a good friend for many years both he and Mark share the same sense of humour and together have that willingness for both dogs and handlers to thoroughly enjoy their training and we are delighted that Carl has come on board bringing a wealth of experience from the shooting field to our training days.

To begin our 2015 season it became evident that yet a further trainer would be required and after careful consideration we asked our colleague Steve Walton who fortunately succumbed to join us, to which we are highly delighted.  Steve has owned working and show Weimaraners for over 25 years, is experienced in the field and also awards Challenge Certificates at Championship Shows in his breed.  He owns a similar demeanour to both Mark and Carl being calm and quiet around dogs and is extremely personable.

A huge welcome to Steve So now we have the three Musketeers; from left to right Steve, Mark & Carl

Achouffe are so proud of their pupils .. this is Pete Brooks and Ruby Graded Good at Cattons’ Spring Pointing Test 2015

Thank you so much Julie and Mark for organising a fun water training day. Really enjoyed it. Please thank Carl for putting on some challenging retrieves for Cash, and for his help to getting us to achieve. Looking forward to more days like this smile.

One of the best days ever training with Achouffe Gundogs who truly surpassed themselves with the ground today. The water was just superb and plenty of ground available for retrieves on land too. Worked on Jagers delivery to hand from water – all I can say is as long as I have a bush to hide behind all is good – and took Moka along for socialising. She took it all in her stride and had a great time, thank you so much Carl Issitt, Julie George-Ainscough, Mark Hodgkinson and Steve Walton for giving up your time and Julie King as always for fab cake!

Fabulous day at the Achouffe Charity Retrieving Challenge, great company etc, etc. Jager did well in three of the tests and not so well in the other 2. 6th overall in Novice. Well done to team Achouffe Gundogs for organising this super event.

You all made me very welcome, the cake was as superb as I was told it was. The dogs and I had a fantastic day, I am now sitting with an ice pack on my knee with two knackered but happy dogs. I look forward very much to the next day out with you all xx

I can’t believe I didn’t know about you all, you’ve been keeping this group a secret from me. You are just what I need, an HPR group not far from home.

Another great day with Achouffe Gundogs, thrilled with Jagers performance and she won a 15kg bag of dog food courtesy of Chapel Farm. Spoilt on the cake front as well with supplies from Julie King and Melissa Finch Silberliss Weimaraners, yum!

Well, that was an experience Achouffe Gundogs!!! Wind, rain, hail, thunder etc, etc . I was soaked through to the skin but had a great time anyway. Lovely cake, Julie King and good company as always. Thanks guys but can you remember to put the correct weather order in next time please! Oh and Pomme had a fab time Carl Issitt

Thank you Achouffe Gundogs for a great day of training. I now know that Teagle can hunt and listen to me at the same time. Lovely also to meet Freddie and Julie King. Legs are aching and I think I may have got a bit sun burnt! Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks Julie, Mark and Carl for a great days training, nice to meet new HPR people and fellow Weimaraner fanatics.

Just wanted to say thank you! This is Dill at the Large Munsterlander Nat Apt yesterday. He was one of only five to pass the test. Thankfully due to the day Paul made it to you guys and the advice we were given on hunting he did amazingly! Just needs to learn to point properly but that wasn’t too bad, shall email you tomorrow about the next training day to see if there is space for them to come along x

Mine & Nessy’s first time on a training day and what a day, we both found everybody so friendly and welcoming. The tips and pointers has given me a lot to work on over the next few weeks we will be putting in a lot of hard work. Steve who had to put up with us for the day was brilliant and we could not have asked for more from a trainer. We cannot wait for the next training session. Thank you Mark & Julie from Achouffe Gundogs for allowing us to access this great training facility. PS Nessy has requested a sunny day as she really does not do wet.

Thanks for another great water training day

Congratulations on the best training day yet!

Lovely & successful water training day today, the water was crystal clear as well, good entries & a very impressive decoy Carl Issit!!! Supersonic!

A very big thank you for an absolutely brilliant Spring Pointing Training Day,  Such fantastic fun! perfect, and brilliant ground at Tunby! Full of birds, ooh & hares! All the dogs coped extremely well, all steady, not one single dog took the bait so we’ve all gone home very happy.  Some smashing points on partridge, pheasant & ooh Hare!

Thank you for a great spring pointing and steadiness training day today.  One of the best, if not thee best training day ever.  it helps when the dog was reasonably well  behaved.  But what really made it was the great ground at Tunby, lots of game, great weather and compaany.  Many thanks Mark,  Carl, Julie and fellow participants.

Many thanks for a great pointing/hare training day, came home with a huge grin, just hoping now that your training days don’t become oversubscribed so that I can’t come.

A brilliant day working the dogs and catching up with good friends. Thank you Mark, Carl and Julie.

Lovely day working the dog today at Boothby, on wonderful ground holding plenty of birds, amongst very good company with Julie & Mark, of Achouffe Gundogs with Carl Issitt, Jo Hall, Jackie Doyle, Carol & Peter Brooks.  Thrilled with Sir’s efforts, he put in some grand work, coping with the conditions, covering his ground well, facing cover & acknowledging scent well, he had pheasant, partridge & woodcock on his beat. He’s home, showered, fed, battle scarred but happy.

Mark & Julie, I just wanted to say a really big thank you to you both for going to the effort of arranging your training days with Carl. I have had to let training/trialling take a back seat to work for so long that I had lost much of my enthusiasm but your days have reinvigorated my interest and now I am keen to see just how far I can take Vini. He is such a natural with little work invested so far that I am now going to start taking his training seriously and see where we end up.

Thank you and see you soon.

Thanks for a great training day and going to the trouble of putting all the hares out on the ground to make it more exciting ! And they were all steady! Hurrah !

Dargo, your “naughty boy in the class” got his Show Gundog Working Certificate today !!!!! :) The boy’s done well!!!!! So thanks for all your input into his enthusiasm over the last 2 years, it’s been tough! He He!!  It all seems to be coming together now what with his Excellent & Good Gradings.

Just a quick note to thank you and your ‘team’ for a brilliant day.  We both thoroughly enjoyed it and I think Myrtle did too!  Looking forward to the next day.

Thank you for a great day Training and for the wonderful food, something I did not expect.  I was so pleased with Rosie she excelled herself and both of us got a lot of confidence during the day.  Thank you again.

Thank you so much for Sunday. The food, training and the tips most of all your kind hospitality. See you next time.

Thanks to you both for some lovely days training, and the bacon baps, and the barbie!

A very short but heartfelt thanks to you both, for including us in your family group and making us feel so welcome.  The three of us have had a really positive experience which started with yesterday’s training and was topped with a fab day today where we met some truly nice people and their dogs.

Had a great day at Julie and Marks training day. We were supplied with lots of treats at lunchtime from Julie who always looks after us. Fantastic ground to train on and Ditzy enjoyed her day too. It was freezing though! Looking forward to seeing the pics taken by a very professional dog photographer.

Had a lovely day training with Carl Issitt and Mark Hodgkinson and really enjoyed the company.

Had a brilliant water training day with Phoenix, the weather stayed fine and the company was great and hospitality as always was 2nd to none.

Spent a lovely day in the good company of Mark, Julie and Carl training the dogs with some good results. Spent a lot of time in the shade! Thanks Jules for a lovely weekend, spectacular bacon rolls as usual! Mark & Carl for your willingness to give up your time, Dargo, although asleep, really appreciates it!!!

Mark,

Just a few lines to say many thanks for the wonderful day last week as a gun on the Shot Over day on the Boothby Shoot.  As ever with Achouffe Gundogs, a well planned and executed day from which both handlers and dogs benefited.

You never cease to amaze me with the dedication you have in the delivery of your training days, last week was no exception, especially given the late harvest and the knock on effects and the lack of game; many could have been disappointed, but not on an Achouffe Gundogs training day!

Again many thanks for a cracking day out.

Thank you both so much for a great shot over day. We have a very contented pooch at home!! Hopefully it wont be too long until we catch up again. Take care and lots of love to you both and all the woofers.

xx
